♔ Eyes brimming with dark flame...

Characters: N and Minato
Status: Closed.

It had been two days since N had been home, and no one seemed quite sure where he was. His name was still on the SFC, and he had been spotted once or twice, but he missed any appointments he had made and did not contact any of his friends or housemates.

If one paid close attention, however, in the early morning hours, they might catch sight of Purrloin darting down the street, a stolen bagel in her mouth. She heads out of the plaza and far beyond the city limits, slipping into the forest.

In one of the forest clearings, there sits the missing boy, surrounded by his team and seemingly content. He reaches out and takes the bagel from Purrloin's mouth, giving her a fond stroke before he takes a bite.

[A quiet, quiet sigh.]

Why do Pokemon and humans live together?

[identity profile] singularjustice.livejournal.com 2011-06-22 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Because humans capture them in Pokeballs and use them.

[ He says it so plainly, so cleanly, as if he is reciting from a textbook. ]

[He pauses. That's...]

That is the only way humans and Pokemon ever grow to live together?

[identity profile] singularjustice.livejournal.com 2011-06-23 07:21 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. Unless they breed the Pokemon and raise them from an egg.

[ N had his own problems thinking about that, but he was focused on trying to explain this to Minato. ]

[...]

If an "unless" exists, more may as well. Then it is no longer an absolute statement--how may you judge absolutely on a statement that is flawed?

[identity profile] singularjustice.livejournal.com 2011-06-23 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
No. It is the way the world works. When one is young, a parent or another figure will often give a child their first Pokemon. One of the rights of passage into adulthood is to go on a journey, starting with that Pokemon.

The "journey" consists of attacking any wild Pokemon one encounters in their habitat as the children travel through cities, and capturing those they decide are useful, to use in battle with any trainer that challenges you. They are vicious, you know. You have no choice but to battle them when they spot you, and they push their Pokemon so hard--

[ N growls under his breath. ]

This is what is "acceptable," to humans. To send their children out to attack Pokemon in their homes, leave them fainted in the grass or take them away from their family units, their packs and flocks...who knows how many eggs have gone cold, or hatchlings have starved, because a trainer caught their parent and took them away.

...You misunderstand me.

I did not suggest that one way was right and the other wrong. It isn't my place to pass a judgement like that.

...Likewise, that is what I'm questioning.

Whether it is right or wrong...for so long as it is not that way in its entirety, it is not fair to judge all for the thoughts of some.

[identity profile] singularjustice.livejournal.com 2011-06-24 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
That is the way it works in its entirety. Would you be content with that, then? Do you think it is all right, to allow such things to continue?

[ N's expression darkens further, a deep set anger in his eys. ]

Or will you not pass judgment on that, either?
messianic: (Their beauteous queen)

[personal profile] messianic 2011-06-24 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[He lifts his chin and meets N's eyes.]

I would not pass judgement.

There are other ways to make changes for the better.

[identity profile] singularjustice.livejournal.com 2011-06-24 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
It is too late for gentler tactics. There is so much cruelty in humanity's heart...

[ His gaze focuses somewhere far away. ]

It is a system, like a train rail that was laid down years and years ago... there is no way to change the direction of the trains except to rip it all up.

...N-kun.

It is never too late to make that choice, and it is never too late for humanity.

I do not know what made you decide that there was a time limit on people--but there should never be and there isn't.

[identity profile] singularjustice.livejournal.com 2011-06-24 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
They hurt my friends. They destroy their homes. They torture and they kill.

That is limit enough for me.
messianic: (Half bitterness we know)

[personal profile] messianic 2011-06-25 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
...They laugh. They love. They make friends--with each other, with Pokemon. They create new families.

Will you destroy that? Will you destroy families? Torture those who are happy by taking away their happiness? Because you have judged it to be just?

[identity profile] singularjustice.livejournal.com 2011-06-25 10:15 am (UTC)(link)
They do not count Pokemon as their family. I do not care what human families do, as long as the Pokemon are free from them and safe.

[Slowly and deliberately, Minato tucks his hands carefully into his pockets.

He looks at N for a moment, responding quietly.]

You do not know that for fact.

[And then quietly, tone nearly cold--]

To judge off of presumptions and hearsay...that is unfair to people and Pokemon alike. Remember that before you make any more judgements--or mistakes.

[And then, just as carefully and deliberately...he walks away. Because he's growing angry, in his own quiet way, and he doesn't wish to be angry at N.

And so he quietly moves on. He will...come back another day. Or even in a few hours. But for now...this hits too close to home.

And so he leaves, calmly, hopefully leaving N with more to think about.]
